The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), in collaboration with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), spearheaded the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a multi-species marine hatchery in Barangay Quinawan, Bagac, on January 26, 2024.
The establishment of this pioneering hatchery was initiated by former Congressman, now Governor, Jose Enrique S. Garcia III. This endeavor holds immense importance for every Bataeño, as Bataan is a peninsula where many residents depend on fishing for their livelihood.
As shared by BFAR Regional Director Wilfredo Cruz, the project aims to address the challenges faced by fishermen and fisherfolk in sourcing fish fry to meet their needs. Additionally, it seeks to bolster the local aquaculture industry and reduce the need for importing fry. The establishment of this marine harchery represents a significant stride towards sustainable fisheries and economic development in the region, offering promising opportunities for community prosperity and growth.
Also in attendance in the said ceremony were Vice Governor Cris Garcia, Board Member Angelito Sunga, and representatives from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Central Office (BFAR), along with local government officials from Bagac.
